<image:title>Blog - Beginner Mistake (but it all worked out) - I love this set up. I really do. It has a 2000mm focal length so I can get good detail on distant objects when using an eyepiece, it was easy for me to align with star sense, and after I got the hyperstar, I was shooting at f/2 and 400mm. This was actually amazingly easy and for a true beginner, I was already shooting pics of orion, horsehead, and andromeda. I had found that all I wanted to do now is AP as well. Here was my problem. When I wanted to shoot (or use an eyepiece), I had to start setting up this beast about an hour earlier and it would take me about 30-45 mins to break down when I was done. It is not a set up I could easily move around as it weighs about 80lbs or so.</image:title>

<image:title>Cameras - ASI1600GT</image:title>
<image:caption>This is my new monochrome camera for deep space imaging. I see this camera being my workhorse going forward. It has a built in filter wheel and integrates seamlessly into ASIAIR. If you are expecting awesome color images to come through to your ipad though, you will be disappointed. The beautiful image will have to wait until you process it at the end. Besides this camera being able to produce some of the best images you will see, it also has a great cooling system and I am able to cool it down to -10 degrees celsius in our hot summer nights in TX. Another thing I like is a DC out so you can power something like an autofocuser without running another cable down to your power source.</image:caption>

<image:title>Cameras - Nikon d5300 dslr</image:title>
<image:caption>Here is my DSLR camera. I am actually the least familiar with this camera because I have had the least amount of practice on it. It is, however, appealing to me because of a few things. One, it has a crop sensor which is a good thing when it comes to AP. You get an increased focal length. Two, the LCD screen turns and rotates which is a major plus when trying to frame a target. I will most likely not use this on my Meade APO or my SCT for imaging but the reason I got this camera was to do milky way imaging and to have a backup setup on my Star Adventurer star tracker. I also will use it for birding and wildlife. I will keep you updated with my progress with this camera as it comes but so far it has been a solid performer.</image:caption>

<image:title>Cameras - ASI294MC pro</image:title>
<image:caption>So to start this off, I am posting a picture of my camera. I opted to start with a dedicated astronomy camera. It is a one shot color camera (OSC) and it is cooled as well. I’m not going to get technical because that’s not really what I am trying to convey but based on forums and reviews I read, it seemed to be not only a solid performer, it was also easy to use. Part of being easy to use is the fact that it has a color sony sensor. While this is not the best for astrophotography over a monochrome sensor, I figured it would give me good results, in less time, both shooting and editing. It has not disappointed. I use this camera with the ASIAIR, which I will discuss as well. I don’t think I would even try to do it any other way. The only negative I would say comes with this camera is there is some amp glow that sometimes comes out in individual subs. It has not affected any of my post processing images though. >>Clicking on the photo will take you to OPT where you can purchase this camera or read more on it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mounts - Ioptron CEM25P</image:title>
<image:caption>Here is essentially the most important piece of equipment for any set up. Your GOTO mount. It is important because if you have an undersized mount, and your payload capacity is too high, then you will have issues tracking your target for longer exposure AP. Whether this is the best mount that is out there, I don’t know but I have really enjoyed it. First off, it has an extremely quiet motor. I have a larger mount that is pretty loud. This one you can hardly hear. Also it is extremely portable and lightweight while having a payload capacity of 27lbs. I can easily carry this setup in and out of the house with no issues. Other items; It includes an illuminating polar scope (although I use a pole master), GotoNova Technology, and built in GPS. There really isn’t anything I dont like about this mount other than I had to find my home position manually and mark lines on the housing where that was so I if I have balance my scope or something, I can find the correct home position. I would definitely recommend this mount to anyone looking to do some imaging with a small refractor.</image:caption>

<image:title>Scopes, Guiders, and Lenses - Meade 6000 70mm APO refractor f/5</image:title>
<image:caption>This is my favorite toy. It is a 350mm petzval quadruplet refractor. With the crop sensor on my 294, I believe it gives an additional 1.5x focal length. The focus knobs make it easy to bring your target into focus because the blue knob in the pic allows you to make fine tune adjustments. There is a retractable dew shield on the front. It also has a focus lock down on the bottom but I couldn’t use it because the dovetail got in the way when I was trying to balance this on my mount. Not a big deal. With this scope, you do not need an additional field flattener. You just hook up your camera with the right spacers and focus and you’re good to go. A 2” filter will thread right onto the back. I haven’t gotten to shoot much with it but the images I have shot are crisp. The only downside to this scope is that it is for AP ONLY. You cannot do visual viewing on it. >>Click the photo to be directed to OPT where you can read more on this scope.</image:caption>

<image:title>Scopes, Guiders, and Lenses - ZWO mini guide scope and ASI 120mm-s</image:title>
<image:caption>Here is my guide scope and camera set up. This scope is one of the smaller guide scopes out there and I’ve had success with it at the focal lengths I have shot at (350 - 500). It has a 30mm aperture and a 120mm focal length. The scope has a helical focuser and a lock so you can lock your focus in. The camera is an ASI120mm-s. I have only used this camera for guiding. It is a monochrome sensor so it only shoots a grayscale image but monochrome sensors are known for being more sensitive so they are perfect for guiding. I hope to use this as a planetary camera with filters in the future. I don’t know if this is possible but I will definitely try it out and report back with images!</image:caption>

<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e5954f9432e382c6f001153/1584236053974-WPV0HQJ0ZSO7Q4WZ85R1/IMG_0710.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Scopes, Guiders, and Lenses - Rokinon 14mm f2.8</image:title>
<image:caption>Everyone who has researched shooting the milky way should know about this lens. It is one of the best lenses at its price point for shooting untracked and tracked images of the milky way. At f2.8, it is extremely fast. It is also a very wide lens. I have a crop sensor so I will not get 14mm but at 21mm, it should still be a pretty nice frame. I hope to be posting some pics with this camera VERY soon from a VERY dark location. Stay Tuned!</image:caption>

<image:title>Accessories - ASIAir V1</image:title>
<image:caption>This is probably the smallest part of of my setup but it is by far the most intuitive. The ASIAIR allows you to use your ipad to not only see your pics of the sky, but also to take sub exposures of all lengths, autoguide using your guide scope, and link with sky safari to automatically slew to your selected tarrget. I recently was able to sync to my mount and WOW was it amazing (I will create a video of how I did this with my setup very soon and it will be posted on my site). I was able to polor align, slew to my target, and then ASIAIR would plate solve and center my target. I did this all in my living room while my mount was in the backyard. I will definitely be getting the newer version as soon as it is available. Worth every penny.</image:caption>
